Rare & Beautiful 1950s Russian Hallmarked. 875 Silver Clam Shell vanity Compact. The 1950s powder compact with a moulded bakelite type material which is textured and coloured in the form of a clam shell and mounted in solid. The push button hinge lid opens to a silver gilt interior, mirror one side and slide-release catch covered powder bowl opposite. The compact is fully hallmarked. 875 with a Russian makers name I cannot decipher as it is in Russian. The purity of silver is 875 parts of 1000 and the silver has a light gold wash over the top called gilding. The condition overall of the compact is very good, it has some minor scratches, wear which are entirely commensurate with age including to small areas of the gilding. I have left the compact un-cleaned but it would benefit from a suitable clean. The compact approximately measures 7.7 cm long by 6.7 cm wide by 3.3 cm thick at its thickest point and approximately weighs 92.4g.
