Beautiful Rare 18th Century Solid Silver George II Coin Insert Punch Ladle 1758
FINE RARE ANTIQUE MID 18. CENTURY SOLID STERLING SILVER & TURNED WOOD PUNCH LADLE – GEORGE II COIN INSERT TO BOWL 1758. On offer is this fine, rare antique George II era, mid 18. Century, solid sterling silver and wood punch ladle, with a lovely decorative bowl in repousse silver, George II coin insert to centre of bowl 1758 – please see the photos – and they do not do it justice. Due to their size, these ladles are always difficult to photograph satisfactorily, to show all the wonderful crafting and detail. The bowl has a monogram attractively engraved to the front which, judging by the style, appear to be contemporary to the piece. Unbranded, no hallmarks, as was common with these types of coin insert ladles. About 33cm in length; 5.5cm by 6.5cm across the bowl, including the lip; and weighs 44g. It is in good. Antique condition, especially considering it is 264 years old, the usual signs of wear commensurate with age and use. The handle is firmly attached, as is the silver finial, there are no splits or dents, or signs of repair, as far as I can tell. If you have any questions, please ask. Any dark marks, etc are reflections or bits of age-related patina. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING. Whilst you are here, why not have a look at our other lovely solid silver items? In particular, we have another 2 18th century punch ladles on offer at the moment, one fully hallmarked for George Hindmarsh, London 1750. We specialise in high quality silver items that carry the hallmarks of English sterling silver. We have many collectable silver pieces of different eras and styles – antique, vintage and modern – from the 18th. Century to the present. We have a large variety of silver items in stock, with a price range to suit all budgets, whether you are a collector or looking for that perfect gift. That’s the advantage of a detailed hallmarking system – you can find something to give as a thoughtful, unusual present for your chosen year – for birthdays, anniversaries, etc! And collecting silver is a fascinating, rewarding hobby. It need not be expensive – for example, tongs, and flatware in general, are a good place to start. We also offer some high quality silver pieces from around the world. Please check our pages regularly for new items. All items are sent. We have a no quibble policy. Please let us know as soon as you have received the item if you wish to return it. Then you can simply return it within 14 days, in the same state in which it was received. Interior slightly smudged and some pages restored with strips of paper. Two frontispiece of other books pasted on endpapers. Contains a part of the first and only edition of a Dutch Catholic devotional book on the life of Christ (in 5 numbered parts), the works of the Apostles, saints’ lives, and religious emblems, perhaps the most richly illustrated woodcut book of the 17th century, with woodcuts by Van Sichem. Van Sichem may also have cut the numerous woodcut decorated initials with biblical figures, appearing mostly in the works of the Apostles. The book’s title may have been influenced by an otherwise unrelated work published in the previous year, Den schat der zielen, an unillustrated translation of a work apparently first written in Catalan by Miguel Comalada, which saw later editions as well. The work is built entirely around Van Sichem’s extraordinary woodcuts. Christoffel van Sichem ca. A famous and popular Catholic devotional work.
