This is a Beautiful Rare Fine Quality Georgian 18th Century Bilston Battersea Enamel Patch Box, this wonderful ladies patch box dates to circa 1780 making it over 240 years old, the shape and design is wonderful with its oval shape body and crimped decoration, this is then crafted in a lovely pale pink Enamel finish, the hinged top is slightly domed in shape and has a white enamel ground with a landscape in black, to the centre is the wording (The absent are not forgotten), to the inside you will see it is all original and has a white enamel ground, inside the lid it still retains its orginal mirror, it is so very elegant and timeless, this is very typical of the Georgian Period, a yong gentleman would have given this to his intended or love as a keep sake for when he was away, the lady would have kept her black patches inside and used them daily using the mirror withing, each time she picked up this wonderful box she would have thought about her loved one, its a very personal gift and she would have cherished it, t the quality of the craftsmanship is superb. This would have once belonged to a wealthy Georgian lady and used daily in a time when thing were so very different. It is so very tactile and once picked up has the most wonderful feel, this will add something very special to any collection my photos dont do it justice. Small, usually rectangular, sometimes oval.
