This is a fantastic looking and quite rare, large 19th Century wooden hourglass. It measures 1 hour and seems to be very accurate. The wood on the two ends has shrunk slightly on the sides against the grain = very common in early pieces. It measures fully 12″ tall one of the ends measures 6″ wide x 5 3/4 wide. The other end measures 5 3/4″ wide x 5 1/2″ wide. It’s in very good antique condition and the hour glass portion works work. Please see photos for condition and design. This is an incredible looking piece.
This lovely late 19th Century piece is most likely from Ceylon because of the design. There is a small amount of inlay loss and the lid is slightly lifted on the left side as you can see from the front view photo.
