Extremely Rare, Beautiful and Important 17th Century Indian Mughal Brass Ewer

Up for sale is an extremely rare, interesting and important Indian brass ewer with traces of greenish-black lac inlay. This elegant Ewer (or water pitcher) was made around 1680 during the Mughal Dynasty. Ornate flower designs completely cover its surface, typical of Mughal decoration. A ewer like this was always used with a matching basin, since the water inside was for washing your hands. Hand washing is part of a religious ritual in many parts of the Islamic world. Water for washing hands is also customarily provided to guests as a form of polite greeting. Objects like this ewer were highly esteemed, not only for their beauty, but their importance to life – in parts of the world where water is hard to obtain, a water pitcher is worthy of praise. Artists celebrated ewers by painting them in graceful floral calligraphy, and they even inspired poems. This ewer is Heavy and massive. This type of ewers are part of many museums collections. Rare antique Judd Indian Chief pen holder beautiful finish, circa 1920

Judd manufacturing company made some excellent desk sets in the teens and the twenties. One’s theme was al’s, another was Egyptian / camels that were designed for the Shriners and the best of all was the Native American Indian set. The Indian set, in my mind, is the best. I have listed 10 pieces of the American Indian set including the pen holder which I have never seen in any pattern nor has anyone I’ve spoken to seen it. Antique Agra Carpet Gorgeous Rare Indian Rug

A rare and beautiful very ornate Anglo Indian occasional chair in teak c 1880

A very beautiful ornately carved occasional chair Anglo Indian made in teak circa 1880. A beautiful chair probably made in India for the British colonial market. Intricate carving of a bird to the top of the shaped back and carving to the back rest of foliage- I think these are vine motifs- often used in this period. Further vine carving on the front rail, sides and legs. Front legs have a slight cabriole, the back legs are slightly curved. The wicker seat is a replacement, done some time age- not sure what the original seat would have been- probably upholstered. This is a very delicate chair which has done well to survive as it has- there are some old repairs to the back. A very beautiful and interesting item. I would strongly suggest this is for a hall chair or bedroom chair- not to be sat on but admired only! A decorative cushion might be a nice addition. Height to the back 88 cm. Width across the knees 48 cm. Width across the feet 48 cm. Height to the seat 39 cm. Seat 45 cm wide by 42 cm deep. Viewing is welcome by appointment, please contact me to arrange.
