Antique Art Nouveau FIX French Rolled Gold Horsechesnut Leaf & Conkers Old Rare Victorian Pin Brooch. A pretty Art Nouveau brooch that was made in France using the “Fix” process. This is rolled gold, in which a “sandwich” consisting of a plate of copper between two thin plates of gold is compressed between rollers to the required thickness and then stamped into the form of the jewel. Companies such as Murat, Fix and Oria, founded in 1847, 1823 and 1867 respectively, specialised in high quality rolled gold jewellery. For the first time in history the public could wear a jewel that looked like pure gold, and the demand was strong during the mid-nineteenth century onwards in France. This brooch dates from around 1900 and is typical of The Art Nouveau movement featuring pretty Horse chesnut leaves conkers and is set with a deep Green coloured Emerald paste glass stones. A Rare & Beautiful 110 Year Old Edwardian Antique Roll Top Desk. Made in England during the reign of King Georgian V in around 1915 to a lovely standard. The beautiful large roll top slides to reveal a writing surface with fitted interior. Above a large central drawer flanked by brushing slides and three pedestal drawers on either side. The drawer fronts fitted with brass swing handles and all raised upon tapering legs and brass castors. All Made to lovely proportions it would grace any room. The wood has a rich colour and pleasing patina created over the last 110 years. A wonderful piece of English furniture to work and relax from. These desks feature a wonderful automatic locker system whereby the roller top pushes back onto a lever behind the drawers which automatically locks them all with a hook behind. So when you close the roll top the drawers are locked and when you push it back the drawers unlock. The mechanism is still in tack and working well, a little stiff so you may need to push back in the roll top to unlock a drawer. The original roll top lids would automatically lock when the lid is closed. Requiring a key to unlock. No key so the original roll top lock has been removed but is present and with the desk.
