This is Ciseri’s work entitled the “Deposition of Christ”. This Canvas/Poster Art Oil Painting is in very poor condition, but still stunningly beautiful. There are eight people in the canvas. There are four women of which one is the Madonna, three men and Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is depicted dead with with left arm and hand showing. His hand shows the nail hole. Antonio Ciseri was born in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland in 1821. Moving to Florence when he was twelve years old, he was admitted to the Accademia di Belle Arti the next year. At the age of twenty-eight he began teaching pupils and was widely known for his religious paintings. He performed many commissions for churches in Italy and Switzerland and his paintings were almost photographic in their realism. He was also an accomplished portraitist and died in Florence at the age of sixty nine. Measurements : Approximately 29 inches wide and 22 inches in height. It is showing signs of age wear, which include color fading, paper loss, water staining, writing, tears, pin holes, fold separation, tape, tape stains and paper that is brittle and aged since it is in need of restoration.
