Extremely Rare, Beautiful and Important 17th Century Indian Mughal Brass Ewer

Up for sale is an extremely rare, interesting and important Indian brass ewer with traces of greenish-black lac inlay. This elegant Ewer (or water pitcher) was made around 1680 during the Mughal Dynasty. Ornate flower designs completely cover its surface, typical of Mughal decoration. A ewer like this was always used with a matching basin, since the water inside was for washing your hands. Hand washing is part of a religious ritual in many parts of the Islamic world. Water for washing hands is also customarily provided to guests as a form of polite greeting. Objects like this ewer were highly esteemed, not only for their beauty, but their importance to life – in parts of the world where water is hard to obtain, a water pitcher is worthy of praise. Artists celebrated ewers by painting them in graceful floral calligraphy, and they even inspired poems. This ewer is Heavy and massive. This type of ewers are part of many museums collections. Beautiful Rare WMF Art Nouveau Silver Plated Cut Crystal Glass Jug/ Ewer, Siigned

Beautiful & Rare WMF Art Nouveau Silver Plated Cut Crystal Glass, Claret Jug / Ewer. Fully Signed : Running Ostrich. Here we have a beautiful and very rare WMF Jug- Ewer, with WMF cut Crystal glass, a beautiful piece of exceptional quality and very stylish. The Jug is adorned with a reed & ribbon edge and two festoon garlands (Vacant). It has a beautiful scroll cast handle and hinged lid. The lid is surmounted with a stylised secessionist design thumb piece. Its a large and substantial piece standing at 28.5 cm high and 995 Grams in weight. The cut crystal glass has no damage whatsoever, I have looked around very carefully and its free from any damage, chips, nibbles, nicks, cracks and No scratches, not even the contact surface of the base, its also free from any clouding of the crystal glass. Its obviously been a Cabinet display piece that was rarely used. Considering this Jug / Ewer is approximately 120 years of age, its in excellent condition. No Silver loss anywhere , No dents, dints, knocks, scratches, totally in Original Condition. Crystal Glass is perfect free from any damage. The Jugs lid and hinge is strong with very little play , opens and closes perfectly/. Jug Ewer stands straight and true. Height with Finial : 28.5 cm. Width widest Point including handle : 15cm. Diameter of Crystal Glass Jug only : 12cm. Diameter Base : 12.5 cm. Weight in Total : 995 Grams.
