Beautiful Antique Rare Solid Silver & Enamel Pansy Brooch, John Atkins & Sons
Beautiful Antique Rare Solid Silver & Enamel Pansy Brooch, John Atkins & Sons. Here is a really lovely antique solid silver & enamel pansy brooch. The brooch measures just over one inch in diameter & is all made of solid silver. This brooch is really fabulous quality of what you would expect from this maker & depicts a pansy which is beautifully guilloched enamelled in colours of blue, white, yellow in stunning detail. On the back it has a pin & Cclasp working well & it has the early written mark for sterling silver, no-1289 & dates to around the 1920s & the quality makers mark of JAS for the quality maker of John Atkins & Sons & the enamel looks to be nearly perfect, but has very slight loss to a minute section, it certainly is not obvious by the naked eye but just mentioned for total accuracy, but is so vibrant, see pics. However this really is a lovely antique brooch in very good origional complete condition that looks as wearable as when it was made & a rare example of these.. Please note the white on each bud is photo reflection Box not included. I love antique jewellery, so hope that you to can appreciate my items, that have been pre loved with history. BEAUTIFUL RARE GEORGIAN John Bettridge SOLID SILVER BABY RATTLE-TEETHER 1823
BEAUTIFUL RARE GEORGIAN John Bettridge SOLID SILVER BABY RATTLE-TEETHER. This is a beautiful Rare fine quality Georgian Solid Silver and Mother of pearl baby’s Rattle- Teether and Whistle, crafted by the highly sought after Georgian Silversmith John Bettridge, this wonderful early Rattle was crafted and Assayed in Birmingham in 1823 making this nearly 200 years old and yet so complete and beautiful, The detailing to this rattle is stunning from its elegant and timeless shape which is so typical of the Georgian period, to the delicate cast reeded decoration which is framed with delicate rope twist borders, the whistle to the top has been finely engraved with delicate bright cut decoration which is so very pretty and when used has the most beautiful sound, this has three original silver bells that has the same rope twist border to the centre of the body of the bells contrasting beautifully with the smooth finish, each bell is held in place with a silver strap which gives it extra strength for when the baby would be using it, to the bottom of the main body you will see it has a smooth finish with the most delicated dotted decration, this is where you will see all the hallmarks very clearly, the baby’s teethe is crafted from Mother of Pearl and is wonderful original condition, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a baby from a very wealthy Georgian family nearly 200 years ago and would have been used daily in a time long forgotton when things were so very different, if this baby Rattle could talk i can just imagine what fascinating stories it could tell, it is so very tactile and once held has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. This is fully hallmarked to the body… IB for John Bettridge… Georgian head for the duty mark… The Anchor for Birmingham and the date letter Z for 1823, this also carries the makers mark IB on the back of the whistle. The condition is wonderful and all original with just some teeth marks to the whistle which adds to the wonderful history of the georgian rattle as it has been used. 12.5 cm length.
