A great condition copper lidded bowl from the Kashmiri region of India. It is of bulbous shape and hand beaten and formed. An antique item dating from circa 1920. By the end of the 19th century with the decline of the Mughal era, the skills of Kashmiri metalworkers got oriented again towards making vessels rather than gun barrels and swords. To give Kashmiri pieces their beautiful appearance, craftsmen used elaborate floral motifs, calligraphy, geometric patterns and exquisite Chinar leaves. The Naqashi or engraved work with a hammer and chisel makes for a stunning antique. It is rare to find lidded bowls like this, it is very different from your usual vases, coffee urns and trays that you are more likely to see. A nice usable item. Height approx 5.75.
