VERY RARE Beautiful Antique Silver/Bone Betel Nut Salve Container

VERY RARE 19th Century Thai/Cambodian Betel Nut Salve Container. Every betel nut set usually had one of these as the use of betel was caustic on the lips, teeth and gums. I saw very few of these when I lived in Thailand in the early 1980s. This piece is 5 3/4 inches long and 2 inches in diameter at the top of the base piece. It weighs 175 grams. The top is decorated with typical repousse decoration found in Thailand and Cambodia. The top post in the center of cover has been damaged, but does not detract from the overall beauty of the piece. He age of the piece is estimated to be 1850 to 1890 consistent with other piece of the era.

Up for sale is an absolutely stunning antique etching the the talented Royal Academy artist Gerald Leslie Brockhurst. This 1929 proof etching is titled “Malvina” and shows a gorgeous female portrait executed in a striking lifelike style. From unbelievable facial features and shading it appears to resemble a photograph more than an etching. Signed in the plate low left the work is signed in pencil low right and verso a paper label is attached annotating “Proof” making this a more interesting rare example. The condition is fine showing a strong crisp impression with light even toning with its period wood frame showing some wear. The frame measures 18.75 x 14.75 inches while the plate measures roughly 8 x 6 inches.
