A Rare & Beautiful 240 Year Old Georgian Antique Oak Grandfather Clock. C1780

A rare & beautiful 230 year old Georgian Antique Oak long case Grandfather Clock. Made in Great Britain during the reign of King George III in around 1780 by clock maker Edward Burroughs of Fordham. The wonderful arched pediment above a glazed door flanked by columns above the long trunk door and plank base, the signed dial with a silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and outer minutes. This clock has the more valuable and desirable 8 day movement meaning it only needs winding once per week rather than the 30 hour clocks that need winding everyday. This is particularly rare for a clock of this age. A true antique, it would very stand proud in any room. Then cabinet has a wonderful patina and glow, created over the last two centuries. A stunning piece of British history that was an essential in every wealthy household. A little bowing to the door as expected with the clock a little temperamental after 200 years. The fall front cover with beautiful brass oval lock cover revealing a lovely fitted interior with an arrangement of miniature drawers, pigeon holes and writing desk. Four long drawers fitted with later brass swing handles and escutcheons. All raised upon small swept feet to the front.
