A rare & beautiful 170 year old Victorian Antique Mahogany Long case Grandfather Clock. Made in Great Britain during the reign of Queen Victoria in around 1850 to a wonderful standard. The swan neck pediment with brass finials above a gilt foliate swag decorated frieze and an arched glazed door flanked by square section columns above the long trunk door and panel base. The dial with a silvered chapter ring and gilt metal spandrels subsidiary seconds and date aperture. The clock also has the more valuable and desirable 8 day movement and so only needs winding once a week rather than everyday like the 30 hour movements. These clocks were at the very height of fashion throughout the Georgian & Victorian period and would have stood in a fine house. It would stand very proud in any room. Then case has a wonderful patina and glow, created over the last 170 years. A lovely piece of British history that was an essential in every wealthy household. The plinth that sits under the hood is likely later along with usual small bits of missing veneer or trim. Our clocks are half the price of antique & clock shops.
