Beautiful Early Big Antique Staffordshire Dog’s. 12″&1/2 Inches tall and 9″&1/2 inches across bottom. Each One weights in at over 4 pounds. Beautiful Early Big Rare Antique Staffordshire Dog’s. Beautiful Early Big Rare Antique Staffordshire Spaniel Dog’s. Each One weights in at over 4 pounds(See photo’s of them on scale). These show all the obvious signs that they are real. Typical old base does not have casting holes. Note typical flaws such as firing lines, glaze frizzle, bumps and pitting(Shown in Photo’s with green arrow as you will see a bump and un-glazed spot on back tail on one) 3. Paint from the sides has dripped down over the edges of the base like on these you will see. Shows fine brush strokes on the muzzle and two dog’s are never painted the same like these two. Firing holes were made to release expanding gas which builds up inside hollow figures during firing. Typical firing holes average about one-eighth inch in diameter. Firing holes may or may not be present in original dogs. They may appear in the base or other locations such as the back 6. Most gold trim used on original dogs has a softer appearance than new gold trim & rarely has a mirror-like reflection, it is usually dull and almost always shows some random wear. Most gold trim used on original dogs has a softer appearance than new gold trim. Crazing in new glazes is often darkened with shoe polish, dark paint or vegetable stains either at the place of manufacture or after a piece has entered the market. Although many old pieces do show crazing, crazing is not in itself any guarantee or an indicator of when, where or how a piece of pottery was made, you’ll see that the old glaze/and crazing these dogs remain consistent from the underneath of the base through the body and face. The One to the right has some damage-either from it’s age or it took a bump at some point it’s very long life. The good news is-it looks to have never come apart into pieces-it’s tight and this area and not at all loose or coming apart. If you look at the detailed photo’s at the bottom with “small stick on green arrows” you will see where the damage suddenly stops. This is the only area of damage to both dogs. Pierre Forsell, Skultuna Rare and beautiful rocking decanter polished brass
A rare and elegant decanter in beautifully patinated polished brass with stopper in rosewood and polished brass by Pierre Forsell for Skultuna, Sweden. When you touch the decanter it rocks! The original box will be included. Material: Yellow brass, rosewood Size: h 18 cm 7 1/8″ w 14,5 cm 5 3/4″ Condition: Excellent, beautifully oxidized patina. Pierre Forsell, the Swedish Brass Poet. Pierre Forsell (1925 – 2004) grew up in central Stockholm. He was trained as a silversmith and got his journeyman’s certificate in the profession in 1949. He even took a handicraft teaching degree and began teaching in silversmithing at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm when he was only 27 years old. In parallel with the teaching profession, he undertook standalone design commissions, including at Gense in Eskilstuna. There, he designed the cutlery series Piruett and the dredger Shakers. His breakthrough was on the legendary H55 exhibition in Helsingborg, where his typical and clean 1950s design attracted wide attention. He was employed at Skultuna Messingsbruk 1955 to 1986, and did much to give the brass and Skultuna a new status in the 1960 and 70s. Having previously designed most household utensils and cutlery at Gense, but got fond of the brass and gave it a tight and modern design. For over 400 years Skultuna has produced brass and sterling silver objects of the highest quality for both everyday use and for special occasions. In 1607 King Karl IX could at last implement his long held plans for a Swedish brass industry. Refining copper into brass would reduce imports of brass and increase income from exports. The King had a man sent off on the Crown’s business to find a suitable location for a brass foundry; Skultuna was selected due to the closeness to water power. Charcoal was available here as well and the copper mine at Falun was also close. Today, over four centuries later, the company still resides in the very same place in Skultuna. The first master braziers were called here from the brass foundries in Germany and the Netherlands, they also brought the technique on how to make large brass objects like chandeliers. The oldest known chandelier is in the Church of Our Lady in Enköping and is dated 1619. Introducing designers and eventually modern design. In the 15th and 16th century, the design work was part of the craftsmanship. At the end of 17th century, processes and work methods were standardized. This was the foundation of what we today call industrial design. Norrström belonged to the most recognized designers at that time and was granted many awards for his creations. Carl Hjalmar won the Gold medal at the World Expo in Paris during the year 1900 for his magnificent baptizing font. This can still be seen at the museum in Skultuna. After his studies at the Art Academy in Stockholm, Norrström went to Paris to study. He became one of many famous artists in the colony, together with well-known artists like Carl Larsson. Carl Hjalmar Norrström is recognized as one of the first and foremost Swedish designers together with Gunnar Wennerberg, Gustavsberg and Alf Wallander, Rörstrand. The Silversmith Pierre Forssell is one of the latest designers that were employed bySkultuna. He contributed with some fabulous products during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. His designs are very much characterized as Scandinavian: strict and contemporary in style. Another famous designer that has created products for Skultuna is Sigvard Bernadotte. He designed a lot of products for the dining table. The item “Pierre Forsell, Skultuna Rare and beautiful rocking decanter polished brass” is in sale since Friday, May 27, 2016.
