Hello and welcome to Merrily Mad Antiques. Beautiful Rare Handmade English Mahogany Candle Chest. A rare handmade candle chest (more frequently found are candle chests). This looks like it has been hand made maybe by the man of the house or a local carpenter. The chest is made from mahogany and has two draws and a lovely sturdy brass handle to the top, the sticker to the back has been added at a much later date than the chest was made. This may well have been used in a working mans home and could even have been used to store candles in a air raid shelter in the war years. The chest does have scratches and is a little rough around the edges but this actually shows that it has been well used for purpose and adds to the wonderful history of the piece. The chest would make a lovely addition to any room in the home. It could be used for lots of different tings like a desk tidy in a home office, bits and bobs drawers in any room, storing small kitchen utensils etc. Height 33.5cm / 13 inch. Width 20cm / 8 inch. Depth 19cm / 7 1/2 inch. Weight 2.175 grams. Anything from the early 17th Century right up to the 21st Century. We are always on the hunt for new things to bring to our customers.
