A rare old fully hallmarked English Sterling Silver. Curved cigarette box, marked J. G Ltd in three circles. Gloster Ltd Birmingham 1963 hallmark. Very beautifully hand decorated on both sides. There is something like a H3 engraving? Which I can not make out. Cigarettes for this size box may not be available anymore. The box shows age, has tarnish & dings, but is in an overall. Measurements 8.6 cm. By 6.3 cm. Thick 1.9 cm. This item would make a great collectors showpiece. Gift or usable item. Please take a good look at the pictures. Antique rare large beautiful bébé Pintel & Godchaux closed mouth size 11. Bisque head in perfect condition, no hairline, no restoration. Superb quality of bisque, very pale. Very beautiful expression of face. Magnificent clear blue eyes fixed in enamel. Pierced ears with original blue buckles. The head is marked engraved on the back ” B P 11 G “. Nice wig long blond in mohair (used) original with antiques ribbons silk blue. The head is mounted on its original body fully articulated in composition and wood, hands intacts. Various scales on the body especially on the feet and the top of a thigh. The elastic bands are original, therefore relaxed, so they will have to be changed or left as is. This Pintel & Godchaux is superbly dressed in a very beautiful antique dress in very good condition entirely silk and lace. Original beautiful underwears assorted shirt, panty and petticoat, all bordered lace antique (to clean). Original shoes Jumeau marked a bee with their socks. The shoes are used for locations. Reste de perruque d’origine longue blonde en mohair avec nuds de soie bleue anciens de chaque côté. La tête est montée sur son joli corps d’origine entièrement articulé en composition et bois, mains intactes. Diverses écailles notamment sur les pieds et en haut d’une cuisse, voir photo. Ce bébé Pintel & Godchaux est superbement habillé d’une très belle robe ancienne en très bel état entièrement en soie crème, se ferme par ses crochets. Beautiful Rare Vintage Carved Mens House Gable Finial, Papua New Guinea, PNG

To see more fine oceanic artefacts. This is a stunning vintage carved Mens House Gable Finial from the Palembei Village, Middle Sepik of New Guinea. The finial is a component of a ceremonial houses architecture, adorning the gabled roof. Typically, a finial is found on the peak of the triangular gable of the house, looking down on the men as they enter and leave the ceremonial house. The ceremonial house serves as a space reserved for initiates of the mens society. The space is highly coded as a space important to the mens society, with prominent painting and carvings throughout, a high-peaked roof, and highly decorated interior, all adding to a sense of monumentality. This stunning rare finial is a spirit female figure which has a carved part bird, part crocodile, part fish and part warrior in spirit form. The bird is likely totemic reference to the clan or community. Some rare mens houses iconographic decoration is perceived as female, even though solely males use the space. This finial lies in the domain of manhood because of its eagle form and its connection to a ceremonial houses roof gable. This finial is one component to an overwhelming ensemble of imagery, sculpture, and architecture that creates an intensely coded space. The bird of the finial represents strength pertaining to war and its prominent place on the front of the house demarcates the structures importance to the strength of its community. The house serves primarily as a meeting place and ceremonial space for the living community, rather than its importance to the dead. This is a stunning wood finial carving. Estimated age of the piece is 1970’s. The left leg of the wapi bird has a clean break (with old tribal repair) but does not detract from this wonderful old piece. D – 16 cm.
