Rare, Beautifully Aged Vintage Rendile Headrest From Northwest Kenya / Uganda, Collected Pre 1990, but it is much older than that, item #17. It comes from a personal collection of nomadic Northern Kenyan headrests I have for sale. Beautifully Hand Carved as a head support/wooden pillow. It enables the user to keep the head off the ground, add comfort and preserve often elaborate hairdos. These headrests are still used today by the nomadic peoples of the pokot tribe of Kenya. Other nomadic tribes of the region and across Africa have headrests with other different, unique designs. The leather strap is used to carry it or attach it to cattle while moving from place to place. Each item is individually hand carved to the specific neck lengths and comfort of the owner. It also serves as a status symbol. The Headrest has a nice, dark, patina due to age and constant usage. It has marks and scratches from years of use, but no damage or cracks, just beautifully worn edges. All of these’ imperfections’ just add to the charm and authenticity of the piece. I’ve tried to photograph it from all angles, any questions just message me. The items is ca 14 cm high. The top part is 22 cm long, 4.5 cm wide at it widest part and ca. It weighs 160 g.

Rare Antique gold plated Victorian or Pinchbeck Mourning Brooch With Seed Pearls. Highly Collectable pinchbeck brooch with hair woven beautifully in a crest as seen In photos, appraised by a jeweller as very beautifully and finely set and valued as well. Pinchbeck was used in places like stagecoaches where there was a risk of theft they went back to the early 1700s as it’s an alloy of zinc and copper which looks just like gold but it could be gold plate or even gold I cannot be sure and neither was jeweller but he thought it was an exquisite piece. Size is approx 2in x 2in the case is not original obviously but I will sell it in it. This is a real antique of age and meaning and the hair has been woven in to look very attractive and still in excellent condition, the pin at back is in working order. A great piece of history x.
