BEAUTIFUL LARGE ART DECO. GEORGE PHILIPS TERRESTRIAL WORLD GLOBE. This is a beautiful Rare large Art Deco early 20th Century Antique Terrestrial World Globe circa 1930’s, making it nearly 100 years old. The Terrestrial world globe map, was drawn up and crafted by the Cartographer and map publisher George Philips 32 Fleet Street London, this is a very large world globe standing nearly 18 inches height and the globe being 12 inches diameter. This is a papier mâché terrestrial globe from the early 20th century and features not only location names, but also train line routes of the period. The quality and detailing is beautiful. An impressive 18 inches high. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb as you would expect, This is so very tactile has a wonderful feel, my photos don’t do it justice. This will add something special to any collection. Its very rare and of a very large size. The condition for its age is amazing with just a little surface wear and a little discoloration which is expected on a World Globe of this age, it is not torn or cracked at all. I have added the on the last image a rare photograph of the interior of George Philip & Son Ltd taken in 1917 that shows various employees in the process of assembling globes. During this period the company was producing a large amount of globes in all sizes including the unusual and unique Betts’s Portable Terrestrial Collapsible Globe. Died 3 October 1882. Occupation Cartographer and map publisher. 18inch Height and Globe 12 inches diameter. Beautiful, it has the normal amount of surface wear expected, the gilt arm shows wear as ecpected, it has the one screw nut lacking on the underneath but easy to replace.
