Rare & Beautiful 1950s Russian Hallmarked. 875 Silver Clam Shell vanity Compact. The 1950s powder compact with a moulded bakelite type material which is textured and coloured in the form of a clam shell and mounted in solid. The push button hinge lid opens to a silver gilt interior, mirror one side and slide-release catch covered powder bowl opposite. The compact is fully hallmarked. 875 with a Russian makers name I cannot decipher as it is in Russian. The purity of silver is 875 parts of 1000 and the silver has a light gold wash over the top called gilding. The condition overall of the compact is very good, it has some minor scratches, wear which are entirely commensurate with age including to small areas of the gilding. I have left the compact un-cleaned but it would benefit from a suitable clean. The compact approximately measures 7.7 cm long by 6.7 cm wide by 3.3 cm thick at its thickest point and approximately weighs 92.4g. FINE QUALITY 18TH CENTURY GEORGIAN Faux TORTOISESHELL & SOLID SILVER INLAID PIQUE ETUI CASE This is a Stunning 18th Century Georgian Solid Silver & Faux Tortoiseshell Silver Inlaid Pique Work Etui , this I believe was crafted c1760 to 1780 it is a Classic Georgian style of this Georgian period, with wonderful inlaid silver work making it over 200 years old, there are no hallmarks but it does test Solid Silver, it has a Beautiful Elegant Shape to the Faux Tortoiseshell case with the most Stunning Beautiful Silver intricate Inlaid Pique work to both sides, it is charmingly inlaid with a stunning silver decoration to the base and the lid. The colours of the fauxTortoiseshell dance with deep rich browns and oranges, its stunning, the quality of the craftsmanship is breathtaking. There is a Silver Button to the side that opens the Lid, and the Hinge and Lid are in fair condition and it opens and then closes with a nice clicking sound there is a little play when shut. This Etui Case is so very tactile and once held has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special and rare to any collection my photos don’t do it justice. This would have been owned by someone Wealthy in the Georgian Period.
