If you are after a limited edition (only 400 were made exclusively for the UK market) strat built to American Standard specifications and are a fan of Texas Special pickups, look no further. In 1993 Fender released these limited edition Stratocasters, and here is one of them in Fender’s Antique Burst, which I find to be stunning. This was a limited production, American made guitar, with the appearance of a Custom Shop instrument. It has original gold plated hardware throughout, a pearlised scratchplate, the classic maple neck, the’Special Edition 1993′ neckplate, and comes with the original Fender moulded rectangular hard case. If you are into your aesthetics when it comes to guitars, this beauty really does appeal, even nearly 30 years since it rolled off the assembly line. No dings or damage to this guitar, and not much fretwear to speak of, with the neck straight and true. All original pickups, wiring and pots throughout. The stylistic choices really do make this strat stand out from the rest, but personally I rate the addition of the Texas Specials pickups to be equally important, particularly if you are after a fuller, meatier tone, rather than the slightly scooped midrange sound that is a mainstay of the strat. It is worth mentioning that at the time, Texas Specials pickups were only fitted to Custom Shop products, you could not get them as an extra add on. I always judge a strat by its clean tone, and this one does not disappoint.
