Antique beautiful rare big Tibetan Dzi bead agate amulet

This Dzi bead was bought in Tibet in 1988. The bead is well shaped with a fine double symbol design that may represent a flower or an abstract symbol. Both symbols are banded at the base close to each end. One side has a small cavity where at some point the agate surface. It was dug out to be used as a protective medicine. There are numerous signs of wear all over the surface as well as at the mouth of the bead. There are several ” Naga scaling” bands, due to erosion and age. The carnelian beads on this necklace are totally natural. 150 + years old. Please note: This necklace is over 150 years old. Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, Northern India. This carnelian bead necklace was sourced in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, Northern India. This is the home of the Dalai Lama and the exiled Tibetan government. This necklace is 150 to 200 years old. This old carnelian bead necklace has been well used and some beads are pitted as you can see in the pictures and most beads have fantastic markings. This old necklace has the most wonderful weathering marks and a beautiful usage patina. These sacred necklaces are prized by the Tibetan’s and people from the Himalayan regions. The condition of this necklace is very good. Some of these beads have traveled at least three continents, and have graced numerous owners. Small chips, corrosion, and pitting are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. There are small natural cracks and embedded dirt in this necklace. These carnelian beads are from the 19th century and are especially popular in Tibet and areas close by. Carnelian beads such as these were traded to be a Part of the religious and cultural lives of the inhabitants of Ladakh, Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan. The necklace measures nearly twenty six inches all the way round and is all made of real whitby jet. The beads all gently graduate in size from just under half an inch in diameter to over threequarters of an inch in diameter and there are 20 beads. All of the beads are carved with half being carved which gives a faceted effect & the other beads are heavily carved with a lovely effect and they are hand knotted between each bead. Nicely the necklace comes complete with a matching bracelet measuring nine inches all the way round with beads all measuring half inch & under and there are 10 beads & all the beads are the same as the necklace. The necklace is origional to the victorian period around the 1880s when whitby jet and fabulous mourning jewellery was at its height, and as such some of the beads have nibbles and chips and scratch marks as you would expect with age and wear & two beads have large chips out of them, but it would be very easy to change the necklace to a longer necklace with the bracelet beads which may have origionally come off of the necklace & then you would lose these two damaged beads, but i certainly do not think it detracts, see pics. However this really is a beautiful victorian rare whitby jet necklace in good origional complete condition as stated which looks lovely worn. I love antique jewellery, so hope that you to can appreciate my items, that have been pre loved with history.
