Marc Barbou et Cie, Editeurs; Limoges. 5.25 x 4.25 inches. In very good condition antique book! Beautiful full leather binding with lavish gilt lettering and page edges gilded on all sides. The edges of the boards are scalloped on all three sides. There is some slight fading on the spine, and some general shelf wear. But the leather is fully intact, and the boards are sturdy. Binding is tight and square, with clean white pages. Each page has an elaborately illustrated border, and there are a few full-page illustrations with tissue guards. Written entirely in French, this is a fantastic old Missel!

For sale is this authentic antique book from the 1700’s. This piece is a beautiful example of 18th century craftsmanship, and would make. A beautiful display or decor piece. In the 1700’s, books and literature would have been the premier form of learning, entertainment, and enjoyment at home. They would have also costed quite a bit then, as so only the wealthy could afford them. This piece has binding in great condition (give the age), with only very minor blemishes (see photos so you will know exactly what it looks like, and be sure to note any blemishes). While the binding itself is in good condition, there still might be small flaws or light blemishes. The pages are in good overall condition, but do show some light common wear. There may be other blemishes, so please study the photos carefully and feel free to ask questions! I try to photo every blemish I find significant, but do occasionally miss things, so feel free to ask! This would be an incredible display piece (I have it on display in my personal collection now). Perfect addition to any collection! Don’t pass it up! Be sure to check over the details and look at all of the photos so you will know exactly what you’ll get! Old & Rare early 19th edition of this prayer book that can be translated as “The joys of the Christian”, published at the address of Einsiedeln (Switzerland) in 1819, nicely printed in Gothic on laid paper. Die freuden des christen in Gottund Religion – Einsiedeln, 1819 – Gold-stamped red Morocco binding – 392pp, 2fl. 16,5 x 10 cm. With a beautiful title page in red and black in a decorative frame, adorned as the frontispiece with a captioned engraving at the bottom. Very fine copy, set in a luxurious contemporary binding in full long-grain red morocco, adorned with rich gilt decoration on the spine and around the covers. Provenance mark on the top cover (struck in gold letters) M. Handwritten ex-libris on the first endpaper dated 1820. Contains religious texts prayers, elegies, litanies, etc. To celebrate Christian worship. Condition: decorative binding, caps and covers with slight rubbing. Corners a little bumped.
