BEAUTIFUL RARE 18th CENTURY CHINESE EXPORT CARVED BILLET DOUX LOVE LETTER HOLDER. This is an Beautiful and rare 18th Century Chinese Export Carved billet doux of such beauty and elegance, it would have carried the love notes of someone from among the Courtiers of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI’s era. This very special Billet Doux dates to circa 1770 making it around 250 years old, the Hand Carved decoration is breath taking, it has a Dragon with its long Body weaving all around the Carved Floral Scene on the Case, and has Birds and Butterflies flying around the Flowers. Towards the edge and the Lid it has a Beautiful Banded Cane Pattern and the Lid also has the Flying Birds and Butterflies around the Flowers and there is a small Finial to the top. The Base has a narrow Banded pattern and which just gives this Dragon and Bird Billet Doux an elegance of years past, and it still retains its Beautiful Patina of years gone by. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb. This Case is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special and rare to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. A very romantic item, the billet doux was the etui into which a rolled scroll of a love letter might be passed along or hand delivered by one’s servant. A courier’s’envelope’ of sorts, these became so associated with the intimate love notes carried within, that today the term is itself a romantic one. This elegant 18th century Billet Doux is superb, both in form and in condition. These came in a myriad of forms, many survive and we see them in museums around the world. And this would surely add something special to any collection, and is in nice condition with just a chip on the edge of the Lid and is only mentioned for accuracy. Track Page Views With. These lovely small scale fabrics have black colored background with small flowers and leaves in red, yellow, blue, white. There are two small mini prints on the back side of the unusual shape piece. FINE QUALITY 18TH CENTURY GEORGIAN Faux TORTOISESHELL & SOLID SILVER INLAID PIQUE ETUI CASE This is a Stunning 18th Century Georgian Solid Silver & Faux Tortoiseshell Silver Inlaid Pique Work Etui , this I believe was crafted c1760 to 1780 it is a Classic Georgian style of this Georgian period, with wonderful inlaid silver work making it over 200 years old, there are no hallmarks but it does test Solid Silver, it has a Beautiful Elegant Shape to the Faux Tortoiseshell case with the most Stunning Beautiful Silver intricate Inlaid Pique work to both sides, it is charmingly inlaid with a stunning silver decoration to the base and the lid. The colours of the fauxTortoiseshell dance with deep rich browns and oranges, its stunning, the quality of the craftsmanship is breathtaking. There is a Silver Button to the side that opens the Lid, and the Hinge and Lid are in fair condition and it opens and then closes with a nice clicking sound there is a little play when shut. This Etui Case is so very tactile and once held has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special and rare to any collection my photos don’t do it justice. This would have been owned by someone Wealthy in the Georgian Period. In Georgian times, etuis – word of French origin – were very popular, they came in a myriad of shapes and sizes, usually ornamental cases for holding articles such as needles, scent bottles and personal items. RARE BEAUTIFUL GEORGIAN 18th CENTURY PINK GROUND BILSTON BATTERSEA ENAMEL PATCH BOX. (The absent not forgotten). This is a Beautiful Rare Fine Quality Georgian 18th Century Bilston Battersea Enamel Patch Box, this wonderful ladies patch box dates to circa 1780 making it over 240 years old, the shape and design is wonderful with its oval shape body and crimped decoration, this is then crafted in a lovely pale pink Enamel finish, the hinged top is slightly domed in shape and has a white enamel ground with a landscape in black, to the centre is the wording (The absent are not forgotten), to the inside you will see it is all original and has a white enamel ground, inside the lid it still retains its orginal mirror, it is so very elegant and timeless, this is very typical of the Georgian Period, a yong gentleman would have given this to his intended or love as a keep sake for when he was away, the lady would have kept her black patches inside and used them daily using the mirror withing, each time she picked up this wonderful box she would have thought about her loved one, its a very personal gift and she would have cherished it, t the quality of the craftsmanship is superb. This would have once belonged to a wealthy Georgian lady and used daily in a time when thing were so very different. It is so very tactile and once picked up has the most wonderful feel, this will add something very special to any collection my photos dont do it justice. Small, usually rectangular, sometimes oval. Used mostly as a receptacle for beauty. During the days of Louis XV, black. Of gummed taffeta were popular with fashionable. (and sometimes men) who wanted to emphasize the beauty or whiteness of their skin. Some of the meanings. The middle of the forehead – dignified. The middle of the cheek – bold. Heart shape to the right cheek – married. Heart shape to the left cheek – engaged or committed to a lover. Touching edge of lower lip – discreet. On nasolabial fold – playful. Near corner of the eye – on the look out for a new’friend. Beside the mouth – will kiss but go no further. 3.5 cm depth…. 2.3 cm height. Condition, lovely condition, with the normal amount of crazing, the hinge pin needs fixing so the lid sits flush, that being said it doest detract at all from its rare beauty, just mentioned for accuracy.
