A Rare & Beautiful 110 year old Antique Edwardian Mahogany Inlaid wardrobe made by the famous Gillows, furniture maker to the king. Made in England during the reign of King George V In around 1910 to a beautiful standard. With a beautiful deep double arched pediment over two mirrored doors with line inlay detail with a feature central panel with beautiful inlaid detailing. The base fitted with two drawers with lovely brass swing handles. All raised upon bracket feet. Made to wonderful proportions, it would grace any room. The wood has a wonderful colour and Patina created over the last 110 years. A beautiful piece of English history thats overflowing with historic charm. This piece looks wonderful. The wardrobe splits into 5 pieces for easy transport and slots into position without any screws. Drawers open and close nicely although a little stiff. The sides of the pediment on the top have been planed down a little to allow it to fit into a particular space at some point in history. Height 213 cm – Width 155 cm – depth 50 cm. Two full figured ladies, one standing with right arm out & left draped over the back of her companion, who’s seated on a two-step green seat, one leg pointed out & away from seat, the other leg bent & foot back to bottom step. Standing lady has pink molded & painted ballet-type shoes; seated lady has blue ones. It’s unusual to have original suits, even if frail. Well-marked on base (see last photo). Some almost inevitable old minor damage: standing figure has old repaired fracture on her left shoulder where the arm joins–the suit strap covers it; original silk net bathing suits are frail & worn/torn in several places; otherwise excellent. The head is mounted on its very beautiful original Rabery Delphieu body fully articulated in composition and wood, hands intacts. The elastic bands are original, therefore relaxed, so they will have to be changed or left as is.
